2. What are EEI's hours of operation – Office / Warehouse?

  • Eastern Effects Office Hours are as follows:
    Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm.
  • Eastern Effects Warehouse Hours are as follows:
    Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm.
  • All equipment returns are due before 10am on check in date
  • Vehicle and equipment pick up times must be agreed upon with EEI 24hrs before check out date.
  • Customers who are renting equipment packages with a vehicle should be at our warehouse facility no later than 3pm for a pickup
  • 24hr Emergency service is available to customers who are currently renting equipment. A service fee may apply if EEI is contacted on our emergency phone for the explicit purpose of renting additional equipment.

3. Is EEI open on the weekends?

  • Eastern Effects, Inc is not open for regular business on the Weekends, however…
  • Weekend returns / pick-ups / deliveries are available but must be scheduled and approved at least 48hrs in advance, and during normal working hours.
  • 24hr Emergency service is available to customers who are currently renting equipment. A service fee may apply if EEI is contacted on our emergency phone for the explicit purpose of renting additional equipment.

4. Does EEI deliver? – Does EEI deliver outside of the city? – What are the costs?

  • Yes, Eastern Effects delivers within the five boroughs and throughout NY, NJ, and Connecticut.
    • Delivery and pick up prices vary depending on the following:
      • Location of delivery
      • Date and time of delivery
      • Volume of equipment for delivery
    • Please supply your Rental Manager with delivery specifications and they will provide a custom service cost estimate for you.

6. Why does the Driver I am providing have to take "Driver Training?"

  • Driver Training is a 45 Minute Orientation on Eastern Effects' Custom Vehicles. It is designed to both assess and teach driver competence around vehicle operation, safety, and general maintenance. All drivers must complete this orientation and be approved by our Vehicle Service Manager.
  • Although Production supplies their own driver, Eastern Effects reserves the right to reject any driver we deem incapable of managing or operating our particular vehicles.
  • Driver Training must be completed prior to check out completion.
  • Multiple drivers may be trained for the same job and on the same vehicle. Eastern Effects recommends having more than one approved driver on set. If you wish send multiple drivers for training, production must coordinate a time prior to check out that all drivers can be present for training at the same time.

7. Does EEI offer student discounts?

  • Although Eastern Effects does not provide "standard" student discounts, we do provide substantial discounts to student productions and feel that discounting on a case by case basis allows our Rental Managers greater flexibility when dealing with student renters.
  • Please be sure to alert your Rental Manager that you are a student when placing your order.

8. Can I park in EEI's parking lot during my production?

  • For an additional fee, Eastern Effects allows parking in our parking lot located at 562 Baltic St, Brooklyn, NY 11217, during a renter's production.
  • Parking rates are either Daily Rates or Weekly Rates. Please inform your Rental Manager of your parking needs and they will provide you with a Parking Estimate.
  • An agreement to park in our lot must be approved and agreed upon prior to your rental.
  • Once agreed, your production will have 24hr access to our parking lot. Drivers must be trained on gaining access to our lot off hours and our key procedure. It is imperative that your Driver not block other vehicles, and he/she will be designated a space to park throughout the shoot.

9. Can I take EEI's equipment out of state?

  • Yes, you may take Eastern Effects' equipment out of state.
  • You must inform your Rental Manager that the equipment will be leaving the state.
  • You must provide safe travel arrangements and be responsible for any transport damage done to the equipment.
  • Although Eastern Effects always recommends a full crew check out when renting gear, we especially recommend it for productions that are traveling a significant distance outside New York City.

10. Can I rent Camera equipment from EEI?

  • No, Eastern Effects does not provide camera equipment.
  • Eastern Effects does carry camera Dollies and Jibs as well as mounting equipment such as Hood Mounts, Hostess Trays, and specialty camera rigging. Please be sure to ask your Rental Manager for any particular items you may need.

11. Does EEI carry expendables and how does Pay Per Use work?

  • YES – Eastern Effects has an expendables department. Please submit your expendables order along with your equipment. Please note that your Rental Manager will alert you of any particular expendable items we may not carry.
  • Eastern Effects' expendables are PAY PER USE item(s); which means that we fill your particular expendables order, you use whatever amount you need on set and return everything that remains. Our Crew will check in the remaining expendables and calculate the usage. Expendables are billed by, in most cases, the half roll. Gel/Diffusion is billed by the foot, but discounted by the Ό roll. Items not returned are charged full replacement cost. Please see our Expendables Price List for more information about our stock and pricing.
  • Please be aware that a majority of your expendables costs are not included in your estimate and are only charged after job is completed.
  • Eastern Effects has a pre-designed Expendables Package. Please contact your Rental Manager for further information.

12. Do I need to send crew for a check out or does EEI do that for me?

  • Eastern Effects has the utmost faith in our equipment's quality and functionality, as well as the accuracy of our prepping procedure, but there is no substitute for a full crew check out. We suggest that you supply crew for check out, regardless of the size of your equipment package.
  • EEI may require a crew check out for those projects where our equipment is being used a far distance from our facility.
  • If you cannot send crew for a check out – Eastern Effects will pull your equipment for you and either pack your Eastern Effects rented vehicle, or stage your equipment at our facility for pick up in your own vehicle.
  • Eastern Effects will send an equipment list with your order. It is the responsibility of the on-set crew to take count of the equipment ordered. Missing equipment must be reported to your Rental Manager right away.

13. Can I hire any of the EEI crew?

  • Eastern Effects employees are full time staff members and are not available for hire. Although, they are available to work at their own discretion off-hours or weekends. If you wish to contact one of our employees, please feel free to call.

14. Does EEI have any recommendations for my crew needs?

  • Eastern Effects and its partners have a long history in the film and television industry and we have gathered a selection of crew that we recommend regularly. Production is responsible for hiring, supervising, and making direct labor payments to crew members recommended by EEI.
  • When calling for crew recommendations please be prepared with the following information: Position Needed / Production Dates/ Rate / Hours / Location & Suggested Technical Abilities.
  • Eastern Effects list of crew includes Gaffers / Grips / Bests / Drivers / Driver/Swing.

15. Can I check out the EEI facility before I rent from you?

  • Eastern Effects always welcomes visitors to our facility. Please schedule a time with your Rental Manager prior to arriving at our location.
  • If there is a particular item you wish to see, please alert your Rental Manager prior to arriving and they would be happy to arrange an equipment demo.

16. What type generators does EEI carry?

  • Eastern Effects carries generators large enough to operate a 4k HMI (4000 watts).
  • Eastern Effects has access to larger generators through friendly vendors. Your Rental Manager will be happy to arrange your generator needs whenever possible.
